Brian is a partner at Culliton Quinn and has been practicing landscape architecture since graduating from the University of Illinois in 1994. He continues to be drawn to several aspects of the profession: working with various user groups, learning something new on each project, exciting travel and touring opportunities, and most importantly, the gratification of being outdoors. His passion is seeing a project develop from the conceptual stage through construction and how spaces mature and are utilized over the years.
Learning from both local and global travel has been important in Brian’s advancement as a landscape architect. He developed a passion for travel in college with a summer abroad program in Shanghai, China. A nine month trip on the Ryerson Fellowship to Osaka, Japan shortly followed, further broadening his appreciation for cultural landscapes. He continues to capitalize on every opportunity to study historic and modern-day landscape architecture as inspiration for his own design work.
After college, Brian worked as a project manager for a design build firm, gaining a broad base of knowledge on the building process. This prepared him to be extremely particular regarding site details that directly contribute to the longevity and beauty of the firm’s built work. He was also exposed early in his career to the nursery industry, field tagging plantings for various projects throughout the Midwest and East Coast. He still enjoys spending time at local nurseries and developing planting designs that are horticulturally diverse and sophisticated.

In recent years, he has taken an interest in the green movement involving native landscapes, water management and soil conservation. The firm participates in the annual ASLA national convention and other seminars to broaden their understanding of these topics. These ideas have been incorporated throughout the firms’ work on various school projects.
Brian spends his free time with his wife Amy and children, Ayden, Briden, and Sienna. They enjoy an energetic life of activities, travels and entertaining family and friends in their Wicker Park neighborhood. He uses running as a means to explore the outdoors, whether taking in Chicago’s historic architecture or admiring roadside wildflowers on a weekend away. He also appreciates Bears and Cubs games, scuba diving, summer street fests and eating at new restaurants.
Brian and his family are involved in charity work for the Les Turner ALS Foundation and support numerous other causes.
