Farmhouse Retreat
Private Garden – Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

This charming Lake Geneva home was originally constructed as the carriage house of the former Black Point Lakefront Estate in 1901. It was lovingly restored by the current homeowner into a quiet getaway from their California residence. The garden balances a formal layout with casual fieldstone walls and loose perennial beds to seamlessly blend the historic home with its outbuildings and surrounding woodland. A crabapple allee lines the pathway along the rear façade, leading to an antique stone fountain basin.

Prior to recent improvements, the rear lawn was nearly unusable due to a significant change in grade. Now, lawn steps create a gentle transition from the nestled gravel terrace to the recessed lawn lined with fieldstone retaining walls.  At the corner of the rear lawn sits a round limestone firepit with flagstone steppers providing a destination for nighttime gathering.  The refreshed landscape has a soft green and white palette, enhancing the restful effect of this enchanting garden.
