Urban Modern
Private Garden – Chicago, Illinois

The expansive windows and clean lines of this new home set it apart on the active neighborhood street.  A small front garden is enclosed with an artistic corten fence that will fully rust over, further enhancing its beauty with time.  The garden’s interior has a soft palette of narrow limestone steppers with gravel joints, and this aesthetic carries up to the front door.  A natural stone bench is situated under a Kousa dogwood amongst hakone grass and moss plantings.  In the rear yard, steel and limestone stairs bring you to a landing off the kitchen with views out to the garage rooftop.  Sloping metal planters flank either side of the ipe wood staircase to introduce sedum plantings for interest year round.  Limestone steppers with gravel joints bring that garden feeling to the rooftop and aluminum planters are planted with tall ornamental grasses to provide a wispy backdrop and privacy from the alley.  Off the 3rd floor, there are two additional rooftop terraces to further maximize outdoor lounge space for the homeowners.  A future greenroof will be developed as a great spot to take in city views at night.
