Michigan Beach Home
Private Garden – Lakeside, Michigan

To preserve a mature Red Oak tree, this modern interpretation of a lean-to had to be carefully located with the architect. The house was pushed far back to stay out of the tree’s dripline; this allowed for a larger front yard for play and a smaller rear yard for more intimate entertaining. The clean lines of the front walk and seating boulders were designed to mirror the windows on the front façade of the home. The quiet design allows the oak to take center stage within the front lawn. Local dune grass fills the surrounding beds of the property. The sharp contrast of wispy grasses to modern architecture feels reminiscent of the nearby beach environment.
