Private Garden – Lake Bluff, Illinois 

With a five acre property overlooking Lake Michigan, this Lake Bluff home was a perfect location for sprawling formal gardens. Unlike the existing landscape, the design concepts focused on connecting the garden spaces with the appropriate house functions. The swimming pool was relocated to optimize views to the lake and keep the play area off of the service room. Large formal lawns with open vistas were designed to reflect the scale of the great room in the house. A serious of walkways intertwine the various spaces, creating a path system for strolling the entire garden. A vegetable garden and orchard provide opportunities for harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables with the family. Vast amounts of lawn that currently dominate the property were converting to large swaths of wildflower plantings.
