Private Garden – Lake Forest, Illinois
Situated on a busy Lake Forest thoroughfare, this design aimed to create a greater sense of enclosure for the property. Several mature Oak, Maple, and Spruce trees are scattered throughout the site and provided a loose structure for the well-ordered formal garden rooms on the ground plane. Boxwood parterres act as extensions of interior rooms with low stone walls defining circulation; gravel walkways form strolling paths from the front garden to the rear terrace. A long, ornate pergola and bubbling fountain overlook a large sunken rear lawn. The understory plant palette of Redbud, Witchhazel, Bottlebrush Buckeye, and Hydrangea are carefully located amongst existing trees.
